Photography Designer
As a designer, what job could I get working for a magazine?
My life long dream is to be a graphic designer for cosmo, but I know the majority of companies only hire free lancers when needed. Are there any permanent positions i could look for within a magazine that have to do with graphic design or photography? I know they have art departments but I dont know what positions are within this dept. and if they are permanant
Why do you want to be a graphic designer for Cosmo? You really don’t get any creative freedom. They already have a template, and you have to follow a strict set of standards. You would be laying out pages of articles. You would have the freedom to choose between 2 column vs. 1 column grids. You can’t even get creative with the cover – its always a woman posing with one leg elevated and you get to choose the color of the background.
The only creative part of the magazine that would change from week to week is the intro spreads to the feature articles, which I’m sure is reserved for the senior designers.
I don’t hate cosmo, believe me. As a reader, i love the magazine. I’m just wondering why you chose cosmo as far as design goes.
